Winter 2012 — Our premier issue

Quilt Trends, formerly Fabric Trends, was renamed to attract the attention of all quilters. Through social media, it became evident that some quilters didn't realize that Fabric Trends was a quilt magazine with a range of quilt patterns and projects! By changing the name, the magazine is more in sync with what is inside—current fabrics and how to use them. In upcoming issues, you will be seeing quilt projects in modern lifestyle settings, as well as more articles from designers who have decorating expertise with contemporary decor. In addition to quilts, we will be offering smaller projects that can be completed in a weekend, as well as articles of interest like the ones about Jean Ray Laury and Susan Schrott who "then and now" explain how quilting is an outlet for expression, in addition to relieving stress. Of course, the popular Fabric Gallery will still deliver a sampling of the latest collections, solely to tempt your creativity.

Book Review

carefree quiltsAuthor Joy-Lily takes quilting to a new, yet simpler, level in Carefree Quilts: A Free-Style Twist on Classic Designs. She brings fun back to quilting, and teaches two fresh techniques—sew and flip and slice and swap—where skills like matching seams and measuring are not important. The rules of quilting are also explained…but most of them are meant to be broken! This guide is packed with cute and colorful illustrations explaining each technique, as well as handy tips sprinkled throughout each chapter. A lesson in color is also simply explained, complete with several color wheels so your color schemes will always be perfect! There are 13 fun quilting patterns, from wall hangings and large quilts to a handy tote and darling apron. Quilting has never been so much fun or so carefree!
